Feeling trust and safety inside ourselves feels to me to be a key in feeling fundamentally safe in the world, even when it is so full of change and uncertainty. Stephen Porges, a neuroscientist describing polyvagal theory says that when we can create a nervous system experience of trust and safety in our bodies, we dispel anxiety. Anxiety he says is being in a physiological state of defensiveness.

We can use our breath and physiological cues to cultivate an embodied safety and trust and to melt defensiveness and anxiousness.

Stephen Porges noted that our threshold for being reactive is much lower right now given the hugely challenging and stressful times we have been in with Covid, Fires, confusion, change, and unrest.

So today, we will soothe ourselves, rest back into our ever present inner sanctuary.
